A cyclist is dead after a collision with a sedan on Highway 97 near Osoyoos.
Michael Geoffrey Holmes, a 52-year-old Osoyoos man, was laying on the road at the time when he was struck by a Mazda 626 sedan said South Okanagan Traffic Services investigators and the collision reconstructionist. The incident occurred on Monday around 9:55 p.m. in the 12000 block north of Osoyoos.
RCMP said the Mazda stopped after hitting the cyclist and the occupants were co-operative with investigators and that the collision took place in a rural agricultural area with no lighting. The male was found deceased at the scene and police said he was wearing dark coloured clothing and was not equipped with bicycling safety gear at the time.
Investigators said they still need to identify and speak to the driver and occupants of a light-coloured SUV with black roof racks that was seen traveling northbound shortly after an impact was heard. This is in order to determine what, if any, involvement they may have had prior to the Mazda sedan striking the man.
Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact the South Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-499-2250 or the Osoyoos RCMP at 250-495-7236.
