A dumpster fire proved stubborn to extinguish near John and Bridge streets early Friday morning, causing $35,000 in structural damage to a recycling facility.
The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. at Ellice Recycling, in a bin full of demolished housing material.
Fire crews were alerted by reports of heavy smoke hanging over the downtown core, battalion chief Dave Bicknell said in a statement.
It had been burning for more than an hour and took 30 minutes to put out.
Officials were not able to determine the cause of the fire..
