PACs receive provincial support

The province has provided funding to Parent Advisory Councils and District Parent Advisory Committees.

The province has provided funding to Parent Advisory Councils and District Parent Advisory Committees in the Okanagan Skaha School District.

The funding, announced on Oct. 8, totals $123,060 for councils in Penticton, Peachland, Summerland and Naramata.

The money will be used for extracurricular activities to cover costs including sporting equipment, musical instruments, playground equipment and field trips.

“Our government is pleased to help Parent Advisory Councils with these grants, which provide many important services and amenities,” said Dan Ashton, MLA for the riding of Penticton.

“PACs are made up of dedicated parents who know best how to improve students’ experiences outside of the classroom.”

The Giant’s Head Elementary School PAC will receive $6,980; the Summerland Middle School PAC will receive $6,260; the Summerland Secondary School PAC will receive $8,020 and the Trout Creek Elementary School PAC will receive $3,960.

Provincewide, nearly $11.1 million has been distributed to more than 1,400 PACs for this school year.

Local PACs receive $20 per student, while DPACs receive a flat rate of $2,500.

The funding comes through the province’s community gaming grant programs.

The money may not be transferred to or used for curricular programs, schools or school districts and their activities or programs.
