With no encouragement from School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) on the horizon, parents of students enrolled in the HomeLinks and Wildflower programs at the Creston Education Centre aren’t backing down.
A rally is planned for Friday, 11-2 at the southeast corner of 16th Avenue and Canyon Street, a former school board office building that is the proposed site for the HomeLinks and Wildflower programs.
Parents and students encourage supporters of keeping the CEC open and all services intact to join in the protest.
They have also hired a lawyer, one parent reports, after a number of legal questions arose from recent meetings with school district officials.
Another protest is planned for Nelson on Tuesday, March 13 in front of the school board office in Nelson, beginning at 8:30 a.m. “But people can show up when they can,” says organizer Michelle Deshaies. Some parents will be making a presentation to the Board of School Trustees meeting at 5 pm that day.
A flurry of meetings involving CEC stakeholders, the Town of Creston and RDCK continues this week, with discussions about how to keep the building open and viable.
