There’s good news for library enthusiasts.
Two weeks after a pipe burst causing extensive flooding, there will be limited public access to the Vernon branch of Okanagan Regional Library starting Monday.
“ORL is committed to providing service to our patrons and the staff at the Vernon Branch is taking extraordinary steps to mitigate any inconvenience and disruption,” said Tara Thompson, head librarian.
Since the flood Feb. 10, residents have only been able to drop off books and pick up holds.
Most of the main floor won’t be accessible Monday because of ongoing repairs so programming will be held on the second floor, as will a portion of the children’s and teen collection.
Regular operating hours will be in effect.

The restoration company estimates the main floor will be closed for a number of weeks still as drywall, insulation and carpeting is replaced.
On Monday, Vernon Friends of the Library will provide coffee, juice and cookies in the lobby to celebrate the partial opening.
“I didn’t understand the devastation the flood had caused until I was able to tour the library on Monday,” said Linda Wills, Friends of the Library president.
“The staff have been working under terrible conditions, yet they are still positive and friendly. Their first concern has been how to serve library patrons as best they can during this disruption. So this partial reopening is fantastic news.”
