Incident snarls traffic on morning commute downtown and to Oak Bay

A 51-year-old Victoria man is in hospital after being hit by a large pickup truck while using a marked crosswalk on Fort Street.

VicPD responded to the call around 8 a.m. this morning on Fort near Stanley Avenue.

When officers arrived, the man was conscious, but was suffering from serious lower body injuries. He was immediately transported to Victoria General Hospital.

VicPD’s crash team is investigating and Fort Street, from the top of Yates Street east to Elford Street is currently closed to traffic.
