The 18-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital

An 18-year-old pedestrian was airlifted to hospital with serious to life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a car this morning (Tuesday) in Abbotsford.

The collision took place at about 7:15 a.m. in the area of Maclure Road and Old Yale Road.

Abbotsford Police Const. Paul Walker said the teen was crossing Old Yale Road, using the crosswalk, when he was struck by a small car that had been travelling east on Maclure and making the right turn onto Old Yale.

An air ambulance landed in the nearby baseball diamond at Ellwood Park, and the teen was transported to a Vancouver-area hospital.

Walker said the female driver remained on scene and has been co-operative with police.
