Pedstrian struck by hit-and-run driver

A Chilliwack man was left on the sidewalk with a broken leg and head injuries after a hit-and-run driver mowed him down Saturday morning.

A Chilliwack man was left on the sidewalk with a broken leg and head injuries after a hit-and-run driver mowed him down on Williams Street early Saturday morning.

The 37-year-old man was walking westbound on the west side of Williams with another man at about 12:15 a.m. when he was hit.

The vehicle – believed to be a light blue Toyota car – crossed into the oncoming lane and jumped the curb before hitting the man. It then fled the scene, driving east on Portage Avenue towards Menzies Avenue.

“This accident could have been a lot more serious than it was,” said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck.  “We are hopeful that someone knows something that can help us locate the driver of the vehicle.”

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604 792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
