Penticton Poverty Simulation cancelled

Organizers say that not enough people registered for the Penticton Poverty Simulation on March 2 for the event to work.

A poverty simulation planned for next week in Penticton has been cancelled.

Organizers say that not enough people registered for the Penticton Poverty Simulation on March 2 for the event to work.

“In order to run the simulation effectively and provide the best experience, we require at least 60 participants and 20 volunteers. We only reached 42 participants and 10 volunteers by today’s extended deadline,” reads a press release issued by the organization.

As an alternative, the organizers have arranged a shuttle bus–courtesy of Grape Escapes–so people can participate in the Kelowna Poverty Simulation on March 1.

The bus will leave at 7:30 a.m. sharp from the Penticton Lakeside Resort (Grape Escapes) and returns at 1:30 pm

Registered participants are asked to confirm by email whether they will be attending and any new registrants are asked to sign up at http://ubcosimulation.eventbrite.ca

The Kelowna simulation will be held at UBC Okanagan in the UNC Building at 3333 University Way from 8:30 a.m. to noon on March 1.

Registered participants and volunteers who cannot attend the Kelowna simulation will receive an email with the United Way’s Make the Month online poverty simulator, www.makethemonth.ca, and a package of information with local poverty statistics.

Bus departs at 12:30 pm returning to Penticton Lakeside Resort at 1:30 pm
