Plane lands at YLW after technical issues

The indicator light for the aircraft’s landing gear was not illuminating the green light that indicates the wheel is fully locked.

There were some tense moments at Kelowna International Airport Wednesday morning.

At about 10:52 a.m., a commercial flight on approach to YLW advised the air traffic control tower that the indicator light for the aircraft’s landing gear was not illuminating the green light that indicates the wheel is fully locked.

“Kelowna Airport’s aircraft rescue firefighters, the Kelowna Fire Department, B.C. Ambulance and the RCMP were on scene to support the emergency standby,” said Jenelle Hynes, YLW media spokesperson.

“The Air Canada Express flight from Calgary landed safely at 10:58 a.m. without incident and taxied to the gate.”

The aircraft will have a mechanical review before continuing to its next destination. There was no disruption to scheduled flight service at YLW.
