Car keyed
A 2009 Hyundai was keyed was parked in the owner’s driveway at about 8:30 p.m. on Tues. Sept. 6. There are no suspects and no evidence was left at the scene.
Don’t smoke and drive
While conducting a roadside check stop at 11:50 p.m. on Tues. Sept 6, police checked a female driver and officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana. An immediate roadside prohibition was completed and the vehicle was towed.
Drunk youths downtown
RCMP were called out because of a report of bottles being smashed on Shopper’s Row at 1:42 a.m. on Wed. Sept. 7. They found a group of intoxicated youths on arrival. Two youths were charged with being intoxicated in public, and two were charged with being a minor in possession of liquor.
Counterfeit money
Police went to London Drugs at 6:47 p.m. on Thurs. Sept. 8 after staff found two counterfeit $5 bills in the float. The fake money was seized.
Thief caught
A man stole two bottles of cider from the Campbell River Lodge Liquor store at 6:56 p.m. on Thurs. Sept. 8. He was located and arrested for theft by responding members. He has been remanded into custody until Sept. 19 as he is considered a prolific offender.
Drunken disturbance
Police responded to disturbance call at a residence on Croatian Rd. at 12:13 a.m. on Thurs. Sept. 8. There they found an intoxicated man refusing to leave the residence. He was arrested and brought to cells until he was sober.
Torched vehicle at school
A 2009 Jeep Liberty was fully engulfed in flames in the parking lot of Phoenix Middle School at 5:02 a.m. on Sat. Sept. 10. Campbell River Fire attended. Police found nothing left of the vehicle interior, and all the windows were blown out. The vehicle had been stolen earlier that day.
Carvings in Willow Point mistreated
RCMP received a report of vandalism on carvings along the Seawalk in Willow Point at 10:21 on Sat. Sept. 10. A finger had been broken off one, while an arm was broken off another. Two other carvings were also vandalized. There are no suspects or witnesses, but officers found a black hoodie on the ground beside the carvings.
Vehicle rear ended when stopped
Police responded to a two vehicle collision on the Island Highway at Larwood Rd. at 6:03 p.m. on Sun. Sept. 11. A vehicle with a driver and three children inside had stopped to allow a pedestrian across the road, when they were rear-ended. Multiple people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, but both vehicles were severely damaged. The driver of the vehicle that rear-ended the stopped vehicle was charged with Following Too Closely under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Skateboarder hit
A female driver hit a male skateboarder when he went through a stop sign while riding his skateboard at 6:25 p.m. on Sun. Sept. 11. He was taken to hospital, but was later released with only minor cuts to his face and arms. No charges were laid.
Theft from person trying to help
RCMP received a report of a theft from a residence in the 700 block of Dogwood St. at 7:00 p.m. on Sun. Sept. 11. The complainant befriended a man and woman who said they were homeless, and let them stay at her residence. When she woke up her purse, bus pass, and medications were missing. Police are looking for two suspects already known to them.
Attempted theft of generator by criminal known to police
Police received a report of an attempted theft of a generator from a residence on Spit Rd. at 7:29 on Sun. Sept. 11. The complainant saw a white male trying to steal the generator. The person then yelled at the suspect, who left the generator and proceeded to flee the scene in a grey pick-up truck. The complainant quickly obtained the truck’s licence plate number. Police are looking for the suspect, who is already known to them.
