Police collecting unwanted firearms in October

A province-wide firearms amnesty, in effect since Oct. 1

If you’ve been wondering what to do with grandpa’s old 12-gauge gathering dust in the back of the closet, the Ladysmith RCMP will be glad to take it off your hands.

A province-wide firearms amnesty, in effect since Oct. 1, yielded a half dozen weapons alone last week, said RCMP Staff Sgt. Ken Brissard.

The majority of  40 firearms gathered in the last amnesty were mostly long barrels, although there were a few handguns as well, Brissard noted.

The amnesty applies to firearms, weapons, prohibited devices, imitations and replicas.

If you would like to take advantage of the amnesty before the end of the month, call the Ladysmith RCMP Detachment at 250-245-2215 to make arrangements for an officer to attend and pick up the weapon and or ammunition.

Do not bring weapons, replicas, imitations or ammunition to the detachment.
