A suspicious house fire in Royal Oak last week has been confirmed as arson by Saanich police.

The house, in the 4700-block of Carloss Pl., was unoccupied at the time of the blaze last Wednesday morning. Damage is estimated at between $150,000 and $200,000.

Multiple ignition points were found, as well as some graffiti which may help the investigation.

“It provides some depth to why this fire was started,” said Saanich police Sgt. Dean Jantzen. Though he wouldn’t reveal what the graffiti said, Jantzen confirmed it was more than a simple tag (a form of signature).

“A phrase was used.”

No suspects have been identified yet, and police are asking members of the public who may have information about the fire to contact them.
