Port Alberni RCMP are on the hunt for a driver who struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk and sped off on Wednesday night.
The accident happened at approximately 7:30 p.m. when a 25-year-old woman was walking west in the crosswalk at Third Avenue and Bute Street when she was struck by a truck traveling south on Third Avenue, RCMP Cpl. Jen Allan said.
The truck sped off after knocking the woman to the ground in front of the Husky Gas Station, where the victim was set to meet a friend.
The friend found the woman laying on the ground and transported her to West Coast General Hospital where she was treated for serious injuries including multiple leg fractures.
The incident wasn’t initially reported to police, but was by the victim’s mother when she found out, Allan said.
Police are looking for a small black pickup truck, quite possibly a Ford Ranger.
Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about the incident is asked to contact police at 723-2424, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
