Keys left in vehicles make for easy pickings

Two vehicles were stolen from the 2500-block of Eastdowne Rd. Sept. 17. The owner inadvertently left both set of keys in one of his  unlocked vehicles. One of the vehicles was located one block away on Haultain Street. The vehicle on Haultain Street was not damaged, however it was rummaged through. The stolen vehicle that has not been found is a 2005 Black Toyota Echo, BC License 100NAR.

On the same night, a vehicle was stolen from the 2100-block of Musgrave St. That owner, too, had left the keys in the vehicle.

Police searched the area and found the unoccupied vehicle parked in the 2400-block of Dalhousie St. The vehicle was not damaged, however the car had been rummaged through.

Driver suspended after side-swiping vehicles

At approximately 7 p.m. on Sept. 23, the Oak Bay Police department received a 911 call of a three vehicle crash with no injuries in the 2400-block of Cranmore Rd.

The investigation showed that a 53-year-old male driver of a 2003 Ford truck had side-swiped two unoccupied, parked vehicles while driving eastbound on Cranmore Road. The driver failed an Approved Screening Device and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Thefts from Oak Bay Marina costly for boat owners

There were two thefts from boats in the Oak Bay Marina reported on Sept. 17. In the first, someone entered a boat and broke into the cabin. A Honda generator valued at $2,500 was taken.

In the second theft, a 32-foot outboard runabout dinghy was stolen from a boat. The dinghy is solid blue with orange stripes and it is valued at $14,000.

Speeder caught in Uplands area

A 21-year-old driver was ticketed for excessive speeding and had his 1970 Datsun 510 impounded for seven days after police spotted him driving more than 120km/hr through the Uplands area. The vehicle was stopped in Midland Circle of the Uplands at 11 p.m. on Sept. 18. The fine for excessive speed is $368.
