Police warn of possible mail theft in Lac la Hache

100 Mile House RCMP responded to 46 calls for service during the past week. Some highlights are as follows:

On Feb. 19, RCMP were called to a report of mischief and theft from Canada Post mailboxes on Emerald Cres. and Steven Rd. in Lac la Hache.

Several boxes were opened and it is possible that mail was taken as a result.

While investigating the first incident, the member located another mailbox entered on Dodge Rd. A third location on Cabin Rd. was also found to have mailboxes tampered with and opened.

Customers who receive mail at these locations are encouraged to contact Canada Post if, in fact, they have missing mail.

 

Break and enter

On Feb. 19, RCMP were called to a report of a break and enter at a business located on Sollows Cres.

A male had been observed leaving the business property with a metal article and then left in a vehicle. The license plate of the vehicle was obtained and police will be following up with the owner.

 

Off-road vehicles stolen

On Feb. 17, RCMP were called to a report of a theft at a residence on Whitehorse Lake Rd. in Lac la Hache. A red 2008 Honda dirtbike and a red 2015 Honda ATV were taken from the property sometime the night previous.

 

Arrest made

On Feb. 17, RCMP members located a male wanted in connection for a warrant of an arrest for mischief walking on Highway 97 near 103 Mile House.

After observing police, the male ran into the woods. Members followed the male and informed him that he was under arrest for the outstanding warrant.

At that point, the male brandished a weapon which was a long piece of wood with numerous metal spikes nailed through the tip.

The male made threats against the members and approached in a threatening manner.

After several verbal commands were given to the male to drop the weapon, a conducted energy weapon was used to stop the male’s behaviour and he was taken into custody.

The male did not receive any injuries and was held in custody for court on Feb. 20.

A 51-year-old male resident of 100 Mile House will be facing charges of Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Obstruction, and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

Mailboxes vandalized

On Feb. 15, RCMP received a report of a vandalized Canada Post mailbox on 93 Mile Frontage Rd.

Numerous boxes were entered and it is unknown what or if any mail was taken. It is believed to have occurred sometime in the preceding 24 hours.
