Police report for March 10 to 13

Mar. 10

A silver Toyota 4-Runner went into the ditch at the intersection of Highway 16 and Lake Kathlyn Road. The male driver, the only occupant, was not injured. Evidence suggested that the driver missed the left curve while travelling eastbound and it was determined that the man had fallen asleep at the wheel. Alcohol was not a factor.

Mar. 12

RCMP responded to a report that a 17-year-old female was struck by a white four-door car at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Beaver Road in Moricetown. Witnesses were able to identify the driver, a 42-year-old female resident of the community. Ambulance took the youth to the hospital before she was released with minor injuries. RCMP later found the suspect vehicle parked in a driveway in Moricetown but the driver was not found. It is suspected that alcohol may have been a factor. Anyone with information is asked to assist the investigation by calling the detachment at 250-847-3233, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Mar. 13

A suspicious male and female were reported hanging around and looking through windows behind Babine Truck & Equipment, however patrols in the area did not find any people and there was no damage seen to the building. If anyone has information they are asked contact the RCMP.

Also on Mar. 13, at 4:15 p.m., it was reported that two men were fighting outside of a trailer at the Hudson Bay Trailer Park. The complainant said that there were four to five people watching the fight, and possibly video taping it. Both males in the fight appeared to be wearing boxing gloves. Police attended and located a group of intoxicated persons outside of a trailer and the trailer owner was ordered to shut down the party. Police then learned that two males had a consensual fight outside of the residence, resulting in one male requiring medical attention for a broken hand. As the fight was deemed consensual, no charges were pursued.

Update

Three male youth were determined to be the culprits in a Dec. 12, 2010 break in at St. Joseph’s School. During the incident, it was discovered that the kitchen area was vandalized. Police, the school and parents all participated in what was dubbed an “alternate measures forum.” Through that forum the impacts of the crime were discussed and the punishment was agreed upon for the offenders.

Also your car is immediately impounded for seven days — and there is no discretion on that by the officer. When you factor in the impound costs and insurance rates, excessive speeding can cost over $2,000.
