Police seeking witness to alleged Government Street assault

RCMP are seeking the motorist who observed an altercation between a male and female on Government Street on Wednesday.

RCMP are seeking the motorist who stopped to help after witnessing an alleged assault on Government Street on Wednesday, Dec. 28.

At 8:40 p.m., the Penticton RCMP received a call from the emergency room at Penticton Regional Hospital where a female had taken refuge after an altercation on Government Street nearby.

RCMP reported around 8:30 p.m., there was an altercation between the female and her boyfriend when a passing motorist, travelling on Government Street, stopped their vehicle after seeing the male chase the female and grab her.

Police said the occupant of the vehicle rolled down the window and asked if everything was alright, at which point, the male let go of her and the vehicle departed.

Police are asking the witness, who stopped their car and observed this altercation, to contact Const. Dave Dixon of the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.

The 27-year-old male resident of Summerland appeared in Penticton Provincial Court on Dec. 29 on charges of assault, forcible confinement and criminal harassment.

He was released on a recognizance of bail with numerous conditions, including not to have any contact with the victim or to be within 100 metres of her home, school or workplace.
