Quick action prevented a woman’s injuries from being more serious.
On Tuesday at 12:40 a.m., the RCMP received a report from a relative of a suicidal woman in the Westside Road area.
“Police and ambulance personnel could not find her in the residence and there were signs of fresh blood present,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.
“A quick search in the immediate area failed to locate her. Within a few minutes, one of our police service dog teams arrived on scene.”
The police dog was quickly able to establish a track leading away from the home.
About 75 metres from the house, they located an area where the woman had stopped briefly. The track carried on for about another 500 metres across an open field and into a heavy bush area.
“The woman was located lying near a tree. When she was found she was very weak from her injury,” said Molendyk.
The 53-year-old woman was treated by ambulance personnel and then transported to hospital.
“If it had not been for the quick action of the family member, emergency personnel and especially the police service dog team, the outcome for this woman would have been far more tragic,” said Molendyk.
