Port Alberni’s Sally Anderson receives Caring Canadian Award

Port Alberni volunteer leader, Sally Anderson, was awarded a Caring Canadian Award from the Governor General of Canada, in Vancouver.

Port Alberni’s Sally Anderson received a Caring Canadian Award from the Governor General of Canada, this morning in Vancouver, during a ceremony held at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

The Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, created in 1995, recognizes living Canadians and permanent residents who have made a significant, sustained, unpaid contribution to their community, in Canada or abroad.

Anderson who is an experienced volunteer leader in the Alberni Valley was one of three recipients of this award at the March 4th ceremony. Anderson is recognized for her contributions to the Breakfast Club of Canada, the NeighbourLink Society, which provides social outreach, as well as for her work as the coordinator of its Read and Feed program.

The Breakfast Club of Canada congratulates Anderson on her award. Anderson manages over 100 volunteers at three Port Alberni schools where students can receive a nutritious meal, through the Breakfast Club of Canada program, and interact with community role models.

According to a march 4th press release from the Breakfast Club of Canada, the programs senior director, Josée Desjardins, said the commitment and generosity of Anderson, and the other recipients, “is contributing to making a positive difference in the lives of Canadian children.”

The Breakfast Club of Canada is a non-profit organization that provides funding, equipment, food, training and support to school breakfast programs across the country.
