Power to Golf raises $242,000

Proceeds will provide these inclusive and accessible nature-based programs for more than 800 youth and families this year.

With help from some of Canada’s top business, sport and media community, $242,000 was raised at the eighth annual Power To Golf Charity Classic, benefitting  Power To Be’s Adaptive Recreation program which offers inclusive, nature-based recreation activities for people living with a barrier or disability and Wilderness School which fosters positive social development and life skills for youth who need extra support in their lives.

Proceeds will provide these inclusive and accessible nature-based programs for more than 800 youth and families this year.

Hosted by the Victoria Golf Club, golfers enjoyed a friendly tournament where they had the opportunity to directly connect with the faces behind Power To Be, including the incredible network of volunteers, staff, participants and sponsors.

Special guest speaker Kevin Caslor, former participant turned advocate and volunteer, shared the impact Power To Be had on his life.

“I was a high-school student who did not really enjoy being outdoors, and someone who was less than enthused about kayaking,” said Caslor. “Power To Be challenged my outlook, and succeeded. Today, thanks to Power To Be’s support and confidence building over the years, I now have my own single kayak, and would spend all of my free time paddling if it was at all possible. In addition, Power To Be encouraged me to increase my confidence to the point where I became a volunteer. It may sound cliché, but Power To Be’s people have become like a second family to me, always keeping me laughing as we continue to change the lives of people with disabilities for the better.”
