Pre-Christmas party keeps Nelson police busy

Police responded to a complaint of a loud party in Nelson's Uphill on Dec. 22.

Police responded to a complaint of a loud party in Uphill on Dec. 22. The large party was disturbing neighbours at 2:23 a.m. and officers warned the host to keep noise down.

About one hour later, police were called back because noise levels continued to disturb area residents.

While on the scene, officers witnessed a vehicle lose control while trying to negotiate a turn in road conditions deteriorating due to weather. The vehicle collided with a snow bank and stopped, partially in the yard where the party was being held.

Police observed the driver try to free the vehicle before exiting and departing quickly on foot. The driver seemed intoxicated and was arrested a short distance away. The driver was issued a driving prohibition. Fortunately, the person wasn’t injured though the vehicle sustained minor damages.

Still on the scene dealing with matters, an attendee of the party decided to throw snowballs at the responding officers striking two members.

The individual was identified and arrested, without incident, for being drunk in a public place. The person was released from custody when sober and issued a violation ticket for the offence.

The Nelson Police Department had a total of 60 calls for service over the last four days.
