Webco, a Black Press printing company operating on Camrose Street in Penticton, is being consolidated with its sister plant in Vernon.
“The consolidation was precipitated by the decision of a commercial print client, Aberdeen Publishing Inc., to restructure the printing requirements of their Okanagan based newspapers,” said Shannon Simpson, group publisher, South Okanagan, Penticton Western News/Black Press.
Aberdeen Publishing Inc., a corporate partner of Glacier Media Group, has moved the printing of Kamloops This Week and the Merritt Herald from Black Press in Vernon to Glacier Media in Vancouver. Aberdeen Publishing Inc. has also moved the printing of the Peachland View, Oliver Chronicle, and Osoyoos Times from Webco in Penticton to Continental Newspapers in Kelowna effective immediately. Continental Newspapers, publisher of the Penticton Herald and Kelowna Daily Courier, is majority owned by David Radler and the Glacier Media Group.
“The consolidation of Black Press Printing operations in the South Okanagan does not in any way impact the Black Press community newspapers serving the region including the Penticton Western News,” said Simpson, publisher of the newspaper which operates out of the adjoined building shared by Webco.
Bruce McAuliffe, president for B.C. South Division of Black Press, said “the total aggregated audience (print and online readership) for the Penticton Western News continues to grow at an accelerated pace and Black Press remains deeply committed to serving the citizens and business community of Penticton and surrounding area.”
