Property Values Decrease for 2013

More than 1,100 property owners throughout the District of 100 Mile House can expect to receive their 2013 assessment notices in the next few days.

“Most homes in 100 Mile are decreasing slightly in value compared to last year’s assessment roll,” says deputy assessor Darin Johnson.

“Most homeowners in the District of 100 Mile House will see modest changes in the zero to minus 10 per cent range.”

Overall, the District of 100 Mile’s Assessment Roll decreased from $294.9 million last year to $291.4 this year.

Despite this decrease, $1.1 million was added to the assessment roll, which includes subdivisions, rezoning and new construction.

“Property owners who feel that their property assessment does not reflect market value as of July 1, 2012 or see incorrect information on their notice should contact our office as indicated on their notice as soon as possible in January.

“If a property owner is still concerned about their assessment after speaking to one of our appraisers, he or she may submit a Notice of Complaint (appeal) by Jan. 31, for an independent review by a Property Assessment Review Panel.”

The Property Assessment Review Panels, independent of BC Assessment, are appointed annually by the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, and meet between Feb. 1 and March 15 to hear formal complaints.

The Cariboo assessment office is located at Suite 202 – 350 Barnard St. in Williams Lake. During January, office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Property owners can contact BC Assessment toll-free at 1-866-valueBC (1-866-825-8322) or via www.bcassessment.ca.

Folks can visit www.bcassessment.ca for more information about the 2013 Assessment Roll, including lists of 2013’s top most valuable residential properties across the province. Special for 2013, property owners can also visit the website for an online customer service survey, available until Jan. 31.
