North Okanagan communities will get more than $1 million for policing and community safety.
Vernon will receive $393,939 in provincial traffic fine funding, while there are small community grants of $242,332 for Lumby and $285,413 for Enderby. The Regional District of North Okanagan will get a grant of $112,504.
“These grants will help local communities in our region invest in community safety,” said Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA.
“Our government feels it is important to allow communities to invest in their own priority projects, this is why we don’t attach strings to this local funding. It’s part of our government’s commitment to help improve the safety and quality of life for all British Columbians.”
Local communities have discretion and flexibility to use this funding to meet their needs in various ways including more policing, new equipment, increased community safety initiatives, infrastructure, administration and service delivery priorities.
