A consultant has been selected by the B.C. government to study the feasibility of a bridge between Gabriola Island and Vancouver Island.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure announced Wednesday, that CH2M Hill Canada Limited was awarded a $200,000 contract to examine of potential locations, estimate cost and compare that to existing ferry service.
The contract was tendered, following the submission of a petition to the provincial government by the Gabriola Island Bridge Society, which contained close to 700 signatures.
CH2M Hill will not be examining the level of public support for a bridge, said the ministry.
The ministry is expected to release the report in the summer.
