The new vice-principal at Raft River Elementary School in September will be Ryoko Whitney. Most recently a vice-principal in the West Kootenays, she has a Master of Education degree from SFU, plus many years of experience teaching on Vancouver Island, in California, and in other school districts.
“I love working with children and making learning meaningful and fun,” she says.
Whitney has lived in big bustling cities like Tokyo as well as on a tiny island where she commuted to work in a boat.
Her hobbies include running (she has run marathons), golfing, skiing, and flying (her husband is a pilot).
She has two grown independent children, but still has children at home as a home-stay to international students.
The new vice-principal takes the place of Lori Giesbrecht, who is taking up a position in Kamloops.
