The longtime secretary-treasurer of the Vernon School District steps down after 11 years.

“While the role of secretary-treasurer is critically important at all times, it is even more so in times of fiscal restraint,” said board chairman Bill Turanski, who made the official announcement at Tuesday’s district board meeting.

Hoffman joined the district management team as secretary-treasurer in January 2003 and has worked closely with three superintendents, and as a corporate officer to the board of education he has been responsible for the business and financial administration, building projects and support staff labour relations in the district.

“To Mr. Hoffman, we offer our sincere gratitude for his outstanding leadership during the last 11 years and offer our very best wishes to he and his wife, Cindy, as he begins his well-deserved retirement,” said Turanski.

Lewis Hill replaces Hoffman Aug. 1.

Hill was senior financial advisor for Cascade Aerospace as well as chief financial officer for a private educational institute in Alberta. Most recently, he has held the position of secretary-treasurer in both the Clearview Public School Division and the Alberta School Boards’ Association.

“Mr. Hill understands the need to make difficult decisions necessary in today’s times to ensure the survival and health of the organization as well as, most important, maintaining the district focus on the continued success of both current and future students,” said Turanski.

“We look forward to working with him on our management team.”
