A driver who police say was drunk did himself no favours Wednesday night, allegedly using his pickup truck to ram into several RCMP vehicles.
RCMP got a call at 6 p.m. that a white 1992 Dodge Dakota had already hit several parked cars as it weaved westbound on Chilliwack Central Road. They found truck and driver on Young Road, and tried to end things quietly.
But the driver had other ideas, backing into their cars several times before they finally got him boxed in with nowhere to go.
Seventy-three year old Stanley Edward Sztuk of Chilliwack appeared in court Thursday and has been charged with six offenses. Among them, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer and driving while drivers licence is suspended.
“We are very fortunate that no member of the general public nor any of our officers were injured in this incident,” said Cpl. Len vanNieuwenhuizen. “Impaired Driving can and does have terrible consequences. That is why it remains a priority for the police in terms of road safety.”
