Clearwater RCMP pulled over a driver for speeding on Highway 5 just south of Avola. Police checks indicated the driver had an unendorsed warrant for his arrest stemming from a Kamloops RCMP file.
Police arrested the driver and transported him back to the Clearwater detachment.
The driver was later released on an undertaking given to a justice or a judge with an upcoming court date in Kamloops.
Drug seizure
Clearwater RCMP seized marijuana and drug paraphernalia from a local male at a police and conservation officer road check on Highway 24 in Little Fort.
The male will not be charged criminally at this time.
Mischief complaint
Clearwater RCMP received a report of mischief to a vehicle at the parking lot of a local pub. A female reported that sometime during the night someone had smashed the front passenger window.
The vehicle was parked in the back parking lot near the pathway between two large garbage bins leading from the pub.
It appeared nothing was taken and there was no other damage to the other vehicles parked in the rear parking.
The pub staff were advised of the mischief.
Vehicle impounded for excessive speed
Clearwater RCMP received a report of a black Dodge Journey driving at a high rate of speed, passing unsafely, and tailgating while southbound on Highway 5 from the Wire Cache rest area near Avola.
Later, police were travelling northbound on Highway 5 in the area of Roundtop Road near Blackpool when an approaching vehicle was observed travelling at an excessive speed of 168 km/h in a 100 km/h speed zone.
There were three occupants in Dodge Journey rental vehicle. The driver was identified via an international driving permit.
Police issued the driver a violation ticket for driving at an excessive speed of more than 60 km/h over the limit. Police also issued the driver with a copy of the vehicle impound form as a seven-day impound is mandatory for excessive speed.
The driver will not be able to rent a vehicle from that company again and will have to pay about $2,000 in fees to the rental agency after the vehicle is released from the impound.
Intoxicated joyride
Clearwater Fire Department requested the assistance of the RCMP for a vehicle fire on Kennedy Road in Clearwater.
It was reported that a vehicle was on fire surrounded by bushes and it was not known if the fire had been set intentionally.
Police attended and located the registered owner of the vehicle, who was previously asleep in his residence after a back yard party.
The registered owner’s “friends”, both heavily intoxicated by alcohol, had taken the uninsured vehicle for a romp up a back hill, ploughing down trees and climbing the hill until the vehicle got stuck, overheated and caught on fire.
The fire department contained the vehicle fire quickly.
The registered owner of the vehicle/property now may be on the hook for the fire control costs and related amounts.
Clearwater RCMP continues to investigate the offense, with charges pending.
