On Sunday, Sept. 18, a group of travellers was returning from Wells Grey Park when the driver swerved to avoid a large pot-hole. The vehicle hit the soft shoulder of road, which gave way, pulling the vehicle into the ditch and causing it to roll over.

This was not the first time a vehicle has gone off the edge of the road. A tour bus rolled over into the ditch earlier in the summer and a motorhome did the same thing the prior summer.

Thankfully, none of the collisions caused any significant injuries.

Please be cautious when driving on any gravel road or back-country road as the shoulders are likely to be soft and could give way very easily.

Wallet left at garage sale

On Sept. 22, a women’s wallet, which had been left behind at a garage sale the previous weekend, was turned in to police.

The wallet still contains identification and other items. All attempts thus far to return the wallet have been fruitless.

If you lost your wallet, please call Clearwater RCMP at 250-674-2237.

Rude and erratic drivers

Over the past week the RCMP received at least nine separate calls regarding different vehicles being driven erratically, passing unsafely, or otherwise behaving in a manner that concerned other motorists enough to call the police.

The traffic volume has gone down significantly in the past few weeks. However, it seems some drivers are as impatient as ever.

If you experience someone driving erratically or dangerously and want to notify police, please attempt to provide the following information: location and direction (for example, Highway 5 northbound at Wolf’s corner), as well as a vehicle description (license plate, colour, make, and model – anything to help pick that vehicle out from others).

Police step up enforcement

The past week has seen a significant increase in police presence on Highway 5 in an attempt to address some of the driving complaints, and to do general traffic enforcement.

Beside issuing numerous traffic tickets for various offences throughout the area, police made several drug seizures and issued a few immediate roadside driving prohibitions.
