Lumber spilled on highway
Clearwater RCMP report that on Monday, March 6, police received a report of a tractor-trailer unit hauling lumber involved in an accident approximately one to two km north of the Vavenby Bridge Road turnoff near Vavenby.
Police attended and found the roads were extremely icy. It appeared the unit was travelling southbound coming through a right corner, hit black ice, skidded then went out of control and came to a rest in the right side ditch.
There was extensive damage to the tractor and trailers. There was lumber on the highway, which was being removed.
The driver was issued a violation ticket for “fail to keep right under the Motor Vehicle Act and a notice and order (box 1) to have a full inspection on the tractor-trailers.
Jack-knifed tractor-trailer
On March 10 at approximately 4:30 p.m. a northbound tractor-trailer unit came around a slight left hand bend north of Vavenby and went out of control.
The tractor jack-knifed with the trailer, crossed the road and went into the southbound ditch.
The collision caused significant damage to the tractor and trapped the driver inside.
Clearwater and District Highway Rescue, Vavenby Volunteer Fire Department, BC Ambulance, and On-Call Towing attended to assist.
The driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the Clearwater hospital for minor injuries.
The highway was closed for a period while the driver was being rescued from the tractor but opened up to alternating traffic as soon as possible after that.
Mischief to groomer
On March 10 police received a report from Clearwater ski hill that an unknown person had thrown a rock through the back window of the grooming machine sometime between March 5 and March 10.

90-day driving suspension
On March 4 at approximately 12:30 a.m. police were conducting a road safety check-stop on Old North Thompson Highway near Dutch Lake in Clearwater.
A black Dodge SUV drove fast up to the check-stop and braked hard at the last minute. Police spoke with the driver and noted signs of impairment.
Samples of breath were obtained using a roadside screening device, with both resulting in ‘FAIL.’
A 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and a mandatory 30-day vehicle impound was issued. The driver and his passenger were given a ride to their hotel.
