RCMP searching for hit-and-run driver

The incident occurred Thursday night at Husband and Kalamalka roads in Coldstream

RCMP are looking for a motorist after a Coldstream pedestrian was seriously injured in an accident.

On Thursday at 8:55 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of a 69-year-old pedestrian being struck by a red SUV just north of the intersection at Husband and Kalamalka roads.

“The witness who reported the accident had a video of the event because of his dash cam,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

A woman in the SUV got out of the vehicle and checked on the pedestrian.

“The woman told people who were coming to the scene that he was fine. She then jumped back into her vehicle and left,” said Molendyk.

“The victim in this crash was lying unconscious on the side of the road.”

The pedestrian was taken to hospital and he was reported to be in stable condition Friday morning although the extent of his injuries are still undetermined.

At the time of the accident, the victim was wearing all black and was walking northbound on Kalamalka Road, the same direction as the SUV.

The woman in the SUV is described as Caucasian with brown hair tied back and wearing a dark jacket and Capri type pants. She is about five-foot-two to five-foot-four in height.

The driver and anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the RCMP at 250-545-7171.
