Rotarians Read is now in it’s fourth year and keeps getting bigger.
“This event works two ways. Students see our love of books and we see how children love to hear a good story. We get the opportunity to show our support for the schools. Literacy is not just the responsibility of teachers,” Bruce Izard, Daybreak Rotary’s Literacy Chair, said about the initiative run by Campbell River Daybreak Rotary.
As part of Family Literacy Week, Rotarians went back to school on Jan. 21. This year, 30 Rotarians read in 56 classes and donated the books to the school libraries.
Todd Peachey from the Campbell River Rotary Club, and one of the readers said, “It went very well and the kids and the teachers were delighted with the books.”
Pinecrest School had two special guest readers from Tacoma, Washington. Pete and Kristine Taylor were in Campbell River visiting the Daybreak Rotary Club. Pete is District Governor of Rotary District #5020, which covers 8,000 members on Vancouver Island and in northwest Washington.
“Truly, I feel I enjoyed it as much, if not more, than those wonderful children,” Kristine said.
