Replica handgun pointed at jogger

NANAIMO – No charges considered against teens involved in firearm incident.

Police are not considering charges against a teen who allegedly pointed a replica handgun at a female jogger Thursday.

The woman was jogging in the Beach Estates area off of Beach Road at about 10 a.m. when she passed by two teenage boys, one of whom allegedly pointed a firearm at her and said, “Boom.”

The female continued running and called police about the incident when she got home and gave a description of the boys.

Investigators found two boys, both 16, matching the description who  had a replica black ABG Airsoft pistol along with a hip holster.

“This type of activity is unacceptable,” Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman said in a press release. “It’s a police officer’s worst nightmare when trying to determine in a split second if the pistol in front of them is real or not. Needless to say the consequences could be deadly.”

Police confiscated the gun and holster and contacted the boys’ parents as well as the school they attend after they were told the boys had skipped out of some morning classes, so they will face not only discipline doled out by their parents but school consequences as well. Police said the boys were remorseful and didn’t realize the consequences of the act, so no criminal charges are being considered.
