Citizens are being praised for helping apprehend an alleged assault suspect.
On Oct. 28, an RCMP officer was approached by a pedestrian at 30th Avenue and 37th Street who said he had been assaulted by a man across the street.
“Our officer went to speak to the suspect who ran away,” said Gord Molendyk, Vernon RCMP spokesperson, adding that the assault involved bear spray.
Two days later, on Oct. 30 at about 4:40 p.m., the officer observed the suspect walking near 32nd Street and 32nd Avenue.
“The suspect was told to stop. Again the suspect ran and he was relocated near 29th Avenue and 31st Street,” said Molendyk.
“He (officer) advised the suspect he was under arrest again the suspect took off.”
Various members of the public realized the police were looking for this suspect and directed officers to his location.
“With the help of these good citizens, our officers were able to arrest the 21-year-old suspect at 3204 30th Ave.,” said Molendyk.
“When our officers arrested him, he was in possession of a can of bear spray in his hand.”
The suspect was arrested for assault with a weapon, resisting arrest and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Zack Bradley has been remanded in custody, with his next court appearance set for Nov. 12 by video.
