The City of Grand Forks has a new chief financial officer, as well as a new seasonal bylaw services officer.
Juliette Rhodes, CPA, CGA, takes over the position of chief financial officer from Roxanne Shepherd, who recently resigned.
Shepherd is moving on to another opportunity after working at the city for over four years, the city announced in a press release last week. “She saw the city through a number of meaningful tax seasons and transitions including the major shift to budgeting for the replacement of city assets.”
Rhodes has lived in Grand Forks for the past 10 years, having returned to the Kootenay/Boundary area after seven years on Vancouver Island.
Originally trained in geology, she has significant financial experience in mining and manufacturing, including eight years as factory controller for Roxul Inc.
The CFO oversees an annual budget of $19 million.
Byllaw Services Officer Bud Alcock was born in Grand Forks and moved back here 10 years ago after working in the Fraser Valley. He has run a federal penitentiary and worked in high potential conflict positions for 40 years.
“He finds that treating everyone with respect engenders respect in return and always tries to move towards a mutual goal while avoiding confrontation,” the release said.
The number one task for this season is to provide bylaw education to residents while beautifying the city.
The bylaw office has a busy season from May through October receiving complaints about topics like unsightly properties and unlicensed vehicles parked on roadways. Local realtors identified unsightly premises as a key issue for Grand Forks.
“The new bylaw services officer allows the city to provide increased bylaw enforcement seven days per week,” the city release stated.
