Although 250 volunteers spent a day cleaning up the Chilliwack/Vedder River in April, the shorelines are again full of rubbish after hundreds of people have flocked to them during the recent sunny weekends.
The Chilliwack Vedder/River Cleanup Society is calling on all residents to come out this Saturday and do their part to keep the Chilliwack/Vedder River a welcoming place for families to play.
A record number of volunteers collected 4,370 kg of garbage off the shores a few months ago. The CVRCS has held nearly 40 community cleanups along the river in the last decade, bringing together over 5,000 volunteers to remove 79 tonnes of garbage.
Volunteers meet this Saturday, July 20, at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve (5200 Sumas Prairie Road) to sign in between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Cleanup will finish at noon. The society will provide garbage bags, rubber gloves and pick-up tools. Donuts, muffins, coffee and juice will be available courtesy of Tim Hortons. CVRCS requests that volunteers bring appropriate clothing and footwear.
