Riverside College is opening its doors to the public March 28.
Students from all of the college’s programs will be hosting the community, offering tours and showcasing their skills from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. that day.
Everyone is welcome and a special bus has been reserved for each of Mission’s secondary schools. Grade 11 and 12 students are encouraged to speak to their school counselors or administrators in order to sign up.
“This is an exciting school,” says student Sarah Jenkins. “And we want everyone to know what we’re accomplishing here. Riverside has changed many of our lives, so we don’t want it to be a secret.”
Riverside offers a unique blend of services that set it apart as a college and these will be on display at the open house.
“From our support services to our blend of unique programs to our staff, we’re offering a model that fully promotes student success,” explains principal Cathy Anderson. “It’s a big day for us every year, because the students get to take the lead and show why they are proud of this place.”
The open house will include demonstrations and orientations from each of the college’s trades and career programs, including hairstyling, business support, community support work, carpentry, plumbing, warehousing and automotive service. Riverside’s two newest programs, information technology and esthetics will also be highlighted.
“Whenever people visit the school, we hear the same things,” says Anderson. “They are amazed at how large, bright and new this facility is. They are surprised at the technology and supports we are providing to our students. But most of all, they are impressed by the students themselves.”
All are welcome. For information call 604-814-0446 or visit goriversidecollege.ca. The school is located at 33919 Dewdney Trunk Rd.
