At 11:56 p.m., police saw two vehicles driving past the Smithers detachment going at an extremely high rate of speed. RCMP say that within town limits the drivers exceeded 115 km/h while once they reached out of town they went as high or higher than 150 km/h. Both vehicles were eventually stopped and the drivers, two local males aged 21 and 23, were issued violation tickets for excessive speeding and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.

Police are looking for suspects in a possible attempted break and enter of a vehicle on the 3200 block of 3rd Avenue. Witnesses reported seeing three unknown youth males trying to gain access into a vehicle, one of them reportedly wearing a red hoodie. No entry was gained and the vehicles were not damaged. Police are reminding people to lock their vehicles and report suspicious behaviour immediately. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the detachment.

Another story from June 24, at around 11:30 p.m. a complaint was called in by a woman who said that a man was in her home in the 3600 block of Highway 16, saying that he was threatening her with a knife. Police arrested a 26-year-old male a short distance from the residence. The male was held in custody but later released, pending an appearance in provincial court in July. There were no injuries sustained by the victim. Alcohol was deemed a factor in the incident.

Just after midnight, RCMP were called to a fight in progress at a local licensed establishment. The investigation resulted in three arrests, all for people from Chilliwack. Two 51-year-old males were arrested for causing a disturbance, uttering threats and assault causing bodily harm. A 50-year-old woman was arrested for obstructing a police officer. Charges are recommended to the crown but as of yet have not been approved. Alcohol was a factor in the incident, RCMP say.

At approximately 1 p.m., a concerned citizen phoned the RCMP, saying that there was a young female hitchhiking on the highway. Police attended and picked up a 17-year-old female. A background check found that the youth was breaching a court imposed condition and was arrested. She was later released pending an appearance in court and was given a ride back to her residence.

Sometime in the early morning hours, a bar walk being conducted by officers had them running into a person known to them who was thought to be violating court imposed conditions. Officers looked into it and confirmed that the 28-year-old male from Houston was still under court conditions and police arrested him. Upon arrest, the man attempted to head butt and kick both officers and when placed in the back of a police cruiser he tried to kick one of the officers in the face. He was held in custody until June 27 when he was released by a Justice of the Peace. He is facing charges of breach of undertaking, two counts of breach of probation, causing a disturbance, resisting arrest and three counts of assaulting a police officer. Alcohol was a factor in the investigation.
