Rossland Secondary School’s new playground is now open and there will be a grand opening of the Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 12:30 p.m.
The playground was put together by volunteers organized by the Neighbourhood of Learning Committee and was made for grade 6/7 students currently at the school.
Donors, parents, volunteers, City of Rossland public works employees and members of the School District No. 20 Board of Education are invited to come out and partake in the ribbon cutting, as well as see the results of a year of hard work and fundraising.
In August, over 40 volunteers banded together to put the playground together, along with help from the City of Rossland, Henderson Playgrounds and Marathon Surfacing.
Jennifer Ellis, NOL co-ordinator said the city provided amazing service on the site preparation and digging almost fifty 91 cm deep holes for the playground posts.
Volunteers worked two full days to get the structure built.
Ellis said the playground subcommittee of the three Rossland School Parent Advisory Councils would like to thank all of the donors and volunteers for their contribution.
“The playground would not have been possible without them,” Ellis said. “The playground was truly a community initiative.”
Ellis said the playground was made possible through grants and in-kind donations from the Ministry of Education, Tire Stewardship BC, School District No. 20, the City of Rossland, Nelson and District Credit Union, Teck Trail Operations, the Neighbourhood of Learning Committee, the RSS Parent Advisory Council, and the MacLean Parent Advisory Council.
The Alpine Grind donated the coffee and cookies that kept the volunteers alert and ready to go for early morning start times.
