The 115th Rossland Winter Carnival start unofficially tonight with the Winter Carnival variety show at Rossland Secondary School at 7 p.m.
Then things kick-off tomorrow afternoon with the King of the Mountain ski, telemark and snowboard race at Red Mountain at 1 p.m. and the Learn to Luge event from 1-3 p.m. (also on Saturday).
Later in the evening there will be the Carnival parade, which starts at 6 p.m. at the corner of Columbia and Butte. Fireworks are at 7 p.m., right after the parade as long as weather permits.
“You can see them right from downtown,” Lisa Wegner, winter carnival committee member, said. “Washington Street and Second Avenue is another good place to view the fireworks, because of the big parking lot.”
The fireworks will be fired off at Red Mountain.
There is also a showing of Ski Bum the Musical at 7:30 p.m.
The Boomtown Garter Girls will be performing around town as well.
On Saturday, start off the day with the firefighters pancake breakfast at the fire hall on Second Avenue. It will be on from 7:30 – 10 a.m. Cost is $5.
At 9:30 a.m. the Sonny Samuelson Bobsled Race down Spokane Street begins, with other events starting around town soon after.
At night, there will be night skiing and other festivities at Red Mountain Resort from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
As well as another showing of Ski Bum the Musical.
On Sunday, the Olaus Invitational Luge Race starts at 9 a.m. The luge event is in its 20th year at the carnival. Helmets and snow boots are mandatory.
The Kids Carnival runs from 12-2 p.m. There will be snowmobile rides, concession and maple taffy on the snow. The Rossland Museum will also be having hot cider and coffee available from 1 – 5 p.m.
There will also 24 North American ski magazine writers coming to Rossland Friday to scope out the town and the event, added Wegner.
