Run for the Cure an overwhelming success

More than $66,722 collected at Vernon event to find a cure for breast cancer



Breast cancer survivors, their families, friends, and supporters ran for a future without breast cancer during the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure in Vernon Sunday.

Participants walked or ran the five or the one-kilometre route, and they raised more than $66,722.

“The ongoing success of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is attributed to thousands of dedicated volunteers who commit time, energy and resources to the cause,” said run directors Lindsay Smith and Monica Tiggelaar.

“For them, this isn’t about a one-day event with thousands of participants. This is one step in the journey towards a future when no one need fear a diagnosis of breast cancer.”

 

 

At British Columbia’s eight sites, some 22,000 participants contributed to a regional fundraising total of $3.15 million. Across Canada, participants in 59 communities raised a total of over $30 million. All funds support initiatives in prevention, early detection, treatment, research and emerging issues in the health care workforce.

The following results and awards were presented today in Vernon based on fundraising results as of Run day:

  • Determination Award for the individual who raised the most donations: Megan Fofonoff-Huska
  • CIBC Corporate Spirit Team Challenge Award winner for the most donations raised by a corporate team: Timmy’s Team
  • Women’s Team Challenge Award for the team of women who raised the most donations: Pink Ladies
  • Friends and Family Team Challenge Award (presented by East Side Mario’s) for the  team in the community which raises the most donations: Bosom and Buoyant Buddies
