Safe driving for the new year

2011 has been a powerful year, with the changes to the drinking and driving laws of British Columbia

2011 has been a powerful year, with the changes to the drinking and driving laws of British Columbia, says 100 Mile House RCMP traffic services Cpl. Tim Lyons.

“There has been a reduction of 40 per cent of impaired driving deaths over the last year since the laws were put in place.”

Hopefully, there will be resolution in the matter before the courts (a challenge before courts is delayed until June 30, 2012) of the law that allowed police to issue immediate roadside suspensions of up to 90 days for those who blow over .08, and the fines and penalties that could be imposed, Lyons adds.

“My wish for 2012 is to have safe roads for all drivers.”
