A Salmon Arm man was killed when crossing the Trans-Canada Highway near Salmon Arm late Tuesday evening.
Members of the Salmon Arm RCMP Detachment and Trans Canada East Traffic Services (Revelstoke) responded to a pedestrian/vehicle incident on the westbound lane of Highway 1 at 36th Street North East (near Salmon Arm G.M.) shortly after 11 p.m.
The matter is still under investigation but the investigation thus far has revealed a pedestrian ran across the westbound lane of Highway 1 and into the front driver’s side of a westbound minivan.
A 41 year old male resident of Salmon Arm was transported from the scene to Shuswap Lake General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The man’s name has not been released.
Neither speed nor alcohol consumption by the driver of the vehicle are factors in the cause of this incident. Alcohol consumption/intoxication of the pedestrian are suspected to be contributing factors.
