Salvation Army fundraising falls short of target

Both the Salvation Army’s kettle and mail fundraising campaigns fell short of their goals

The new year could be challenging for a Vernon agency that assists residents in need.

Both the Salvation Army’s kettle and mail fundraising campaigns fell short of their goals.

“Unless we get much closer to our goals by Dec. 31, the lack of funding will have an impact on the programming we are hoping to expand into in 2015,” said David MacBain, community ministries director.

“The Vernon public has always stepped up when informed of a need and we trust they will come to our aid before the end of the year.”

The mail campaign has raised $302,000 while the target is $405,000.

As of Tuesday, the kettle campaign was sitting at $118,000 of the $160,000 goal.

The holiday season wrapped up with the Salvation Army issuing 662 Christmas food hampers this year.

Donations to the Salvation Army can be made online at www.vernonbcfoodbank.com or they can be left in the mail box at the food bank, 3303-32nd Ave.

The office will be open until noon Monday and Tuesday.
