The bells need to ring more if a Vernon agency is going to help those in need.
The Salvation Army kettle campaign has raised $52,600 so far this Christmas season. The goal is $140,000.
“Simply to keep up with last year’s demand on services provided, we need to make up that difference,” said David MacBain, community ministries director.
“To reach the expected additional demand for 2013, we are asking shoppers to help us pass that number.”
Financial donations can also be made at www.vernonbcfoodbank.com or at 3303 32nd Ave.
As part of the kettle campaign, volunteers are still needed to ring bells in the community.
“Once new volunteers start helping, the most common comments we hear are, ‘Kettle hosting is so rewarding as you hear stories of how people have been helped by the Salvation Army,’” said MacBain.
To be a host for some three-hour shifts, call kettle co-ordinator Kendra at 250-307-7770.
“Thank you to all of the businesses, individuals and clubs which have contributed so far this year with food drives and financial donations,” said MacBain.
“Your support of the Salvation Army is evidence of your support for Vernon.”
The Kraft Canada daily voting for food banks is still on until Dec. 31.
First place in each of five regions will receive a $5,000 bonus.
“We are currently in third place, trailing first place by 14,500 votes,” said MacBain.
“All we need to get into first place is for half of Vernon e-mail address holders to vote once. Voting twice would get us well ahead.”
You can vote daily by going to www.kraftfoodforfamilies.ca
“Come on Vernon, let’s do it,” said MacBain.
