Because of the weather, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has once again been issued for Grand Forks and the Boundary area.
According to Environment Canada, an alert has been issued due to the possibility of severe thunderstorms with heavy winds and large hail – the potential for the thunderstorms exists in the afternoon and evening.
“An upper disturbance over Western Washington is spreading moist, unstable air into southern B.C.,” an Environment Canada advisory read.
“The airmass will become particularly unstable in the Kootenays where there’s the potential for the development of severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening. The main threats are large hail up to three cm in diametre, locally heavy downpours up to 25 mm and intense lightning.”
According to the Weather Network’s website, www.weathernetwork.com, it was 18 C as of 9:33 a.m. but the temperature is expected to rise as high as 32 C by this afternoon.
A temperature of 22 C is what is being forecast for this evening.
The Weather Network is also forecasting five mm of rain between Friday to Saturday afternoon, although it could be higher during the thunderstorms.
Environment Canada advises people to monitor conditions, look for updates and immediately take precautions in the event dangerous weather is approaching.
