Shooting in Abbotsford, one man injured

Two vehicles involved in incident Friday night in the area of Gladwin Road and Downes Road.

A man is being treated in hospital after a shooting in Abbotsford late Friday night.

Abbotsford Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Gladwin Road and Downes Road shortly after 10 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing gunfire from one vehicle into another as both vehicles traveled east on Downes Road,” said Abbotsford Police spokesman Sgt. Casey Vinet in a written release early Saturday.

Minutes later a man arrived at the hospital suffering from gunshot wounds.

His injuries aren’t life-threatening, said Vinet.

The 20-year-old victim is known to police.

No one has been arrested and the motive for the shooting is unclear, but officers do not believe it’s a random shooting.

A stretch of Downes Road was closed for several hours as police investigated.

At least one other location has been identified where shots were fired, and it’s believed the two incidents are linked. The location is believed to be on Gladwin Road, just in front of Chief Dan George Middle School.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 or Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-8477.
