A new playground at South Nelson Elementary has received a $33,000 grant from the Columbia Basin Trust.
The total cost of the project, which is scheduled to include an outdoor classroom and natural play area, will be around $100,000, according to parent advisory committee member Marya Skrypiczajko.
School District 8 and parents have already accounted for over half the funding, with another $20,000 still needed through grants.
The playground is expected to be finished construction in the fall.
